Copy-editing: Of course I edit for spelling, style, typos, punctuation and grammar. But I also look for problems with wordiness, organization, consistency, missing or inaccurate information, voice and tone. I'll check citations and do other light fact checking. Changes are tracked so you can see and approve (or reject) them.
 

Proofreading: Here I step back and look at the pre-publication document. Does the table of contents have correct page numbers? Any lingering typos? Are headlines upstyle in one section and downstyle in another? Do graphics or display type contradict anything in the text? Does anything simply look wrong? is as professional as it can be.
